How to take care of my dog, while on the beach?

 

The favourite season of our dogs is here again - summer! 

Every puddle, every lake and if you're lucky - every sea wave in the summer become the most fun canine adventure. 

 

But the combination of beach and dog in the summer has its risks, so we at dogin' dug into the sand and our inexhaustible knowledge of happy and healthy dogs. We prepared this short checklist to make sure you have a hassle-free beach experience with your pooch: 

 

1. A medallion with your dogs name, your name and contact number. 

Make sure your pet always wears a locket or other accessory with his and your name and phone. Whether it's after the corn dog or the pretzels, or after a cheerful four-legged beauty, dogs get tangled up very easily and in the crowds at the beach, they can be very hard to find afterwards. That's why the medallion is damn important. 

 

2. Fresh water! 

Make sure your dog has access to fresh, clean water at all times while you're at the beach. It's extremely tempting for dogs to take a drink from the salty seawater if they don't have a bowl of water or theirs is empty. This, we assure you, is very likely to make your dog unwell, which you certainly don't want to see on the wet sand. 

 

3. Shade. 

Just as it's damn important for you to have shade on the beach, it's damn important for your dog too. It's even more important for them, because unlike you, they can't be in a swiumsuit and wears his fur coat everywhere. So after a long run and swim, always make sure you make room for him under the umbrella for a well-deserved nap. 

 

4. Sweet bath after the sea bath. 

You should always rinse your pet after a beach to remove any sand or salt that has built up in his coat and can cause skin irritation. Some dogs with longer hair or more sensitive skin may need a full bath after a day at the beach. 

 

5. Treats 

Of course it always comes down to treats. There's no easier and safer way to keep your dog calm and well-behaved in the crowded beach. But of course after a day of playing and swimming, it's always good to have something tasty to sustain them.
